Gordon is an animation veteran who has worked in with legends like Bakshi and he was an inspired choice to work on this series. This saved time and decreased costly revisions.įor X-MEN: EVOLUTION, Steven Gordon was chosen to both work as animation director and series’ character designer. However, DC animation had long since embraced an animation-friendly design ideology. FOX’s animation department used comic book legends such as Jim Lee, Rob Liefield and Todd MacFarlane as inspiration.
In the 90s, Marvel Animation was still using a comic-heavy design aesthetic. However, in my opinion, X-MEN: EVOLUTION is an underrated gem that many pass over. There were indeed several misfires in the intervening years.
In retrospect, the two series most fans bring up are usually the X-MEN and SPIDER-MAN series of the early 90s, and then skip to AVENGERS: EARTH’S MIGHTIEST HEROES. Marvel animation is a topic people often revisit.
